If you are not a candidate for one of our LASIK procedures, there may be alternative procedures available to help you achieve your goal of seeing without glasses or contacts:
Advanced Surface Ablation (ASA), also known as Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK) was the original method of vision correction for which the FDA approved the laser.
PRK corrects nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism by reshaping the cornea. It allows us to treat a broader range of refractive errors and provide treatment options for more patients that are not ideal candidates for LASIK. PRK has no concerns or issues with the LASIK flap and is often preferred by active people such as the military and first responders. At the Alexander Eye Institute, we use a special amniotic contact lens to accelerate healing and visual recovery faster. ASA (PRK) delivers the same outstanding vision results as LASIK.
Includes: Follow-up care and enhancements for one year following
the date of surgery.

If you are extremely nearsighted or farsighted, you may have been told you’re not a candidate for LASIK. VeraClear™ may offer a solution. During this outpatient procedure, a micro-thin lens selected especially for your individual vision correction is implanted. The lens is placed between your eye’s natural lens and your cornea. This lens changes the way the eye focuses light on the retina. Although intended to be permanent, this lens can be removed so the procedure can be reversed. For some patients, VeraClear™ can provide the right level of quality vision without the need for glasses or contact lenses.
With any surgical procedure, the results for an individual patient will vary. All surgical procedures carry certain risks.
At the Alexander Eye Institute, we will discuss your options and their risks and benefits so that you can weigh them based on your own personal value system and can make the best choice to achieve your best vision.
